What a day this Christmas has been with howling south wind and snow during most of the day. Thanks to the few brave souls who went out in the blizzard and reported back on local conditions!
I am going to try a star rating next to each location to indicate the best place to go (5 stars total). I will add the "A" for "advanced" to indicate conditions that are unfavorable for a beginner. I would appreciate your feedback. My recommendation is based on the following criteria, wind, surface conditions, terrain, kiter congestion, etc.
Today looks promising at a number of locations. Best visibility should be at Rush and Herriman, but the winds will be lighter so you will need a big kite. You will need a big board almost everywhere. Here is the rundown for today:
***A Strawberry - Wind should be decent, yet gusty with some snow squalls - pull out the biggest board you own as the snow is super deep per Jason Klein's report. Visibility may be low at times due to more snow in the forecast. The other possible spoiler may be sage under the powder. Until the deep snow settles, this may be an issue.
***A Skyline - there will be wind up there, but there is some of snow in the forecast - visibility may be an issue. It may also take a long time to get there due to heavy snowfall.
*A PowMow - NW winds don't favor PM, so the there will be wind, but the riding area is limited and there is also snow in the forecast.
** Evanston - good wind, good snow, but more snow on the way, so the commute may be slow and visibility may be an issue.
*** Rush - good wind, good snow conditions, and only a chance of snow today. A good spot for beginners.
*** PC - Light north wind already this AM along with new coverage - may be a bit congested with kiters.
*** SLC Valley - Matt Grief reported good coverage in Herriman, I would think that the Herriman fields will be good. There should be light north winds than the higher elevation areas. Check the local observations before heading out.
