Here's a report of last week in Maui. Flying in, we flew right over the North Shore and I could see waves from Hookipa down to Camp One but it was flat in Kanaha. So with that in mind, I headed for Lanes (right next to Hookipa) the next day. It was blowing 7meter with head high waves. A local lined me out on how to get across the reef and where to try to get in if I broke down (lots of rocky shoreline) probably Mama's Fish House. It was a blast! I love the place. Just a handfull of locals out and I felt like I fit right in. It was like hanging with the crew at Deer Creek.

After that session we parked on the bluff between Lanes and Hookipa for a beer and to watch the action. There was a bunch of windsurfers out, all of them looked good but there was one that was better. He was carrying crazy speed going out into the waves and hucking huge jumps with tricks. I got my scope out and was suprized, but shouldn't have been, when I saw US1111 on his sail. To me that was the equivalent of a basketball fan watching Michael Jordan or a football fan watching Joe Montana. It really brought me back in time.

I got two more days of 7 meter and one 13, all at Lanes. Thankfully I never broke down. We surfed every day but one on the south shore and once at Hookipa. We got a couple days at Maalea Harbor, home the the "Freight Train". It wasn't big but still had long rights. The day we didn't surf, we rented a Harley and drove out to Hana. The Hana road is a blast on a motorcycle. Arcing one turn after another. It was a brand new bike and I think I wore the pegs down abit because I did alot of scraping laying into the turns.

Here's a short video. Be forewarned, the video is a bit shaky. I think that Sandra was reading her book and taking the video at the same time.
