Grants, Wed 8/14, 7.0/115L/135L
I would have gladly given up a day of sailing to help put out the fires buts Grants just keeps on going. It is now at 7 days in a row and I managed to sail 6 of them. Have sailed 8 times since I got back from the Gorge 2 weeks ago. Just the kind of August I love. Got there early to some nice wind. Went with the floater at 1st to make it thru the lulls. Duane showed up and it seemed to die back although I don't see it on the meter. It came back fairly fast, and strong enough to use the smaller speed board. We had some more wild rides until 10:00 then milked out the dying winds for another 30 minutes. Very sweet morning.
On the history channel you see the geologists pointing out a dark layer in the rocks denoting the mass extinction. Grants now has a black ring around it from the fire. And if you look close at the ground you can see little pieces of white ash blowing around. Lets hope for some rain; we need to put out the fires and the lake is finally dropping way too fast.
