What a fun weekend of sailing. Penny had the motor home ready to go Friday afternoon so we were able to get to Grantsville before dark Friday evening. That got me there for a fine thermal Saturday morning. On the water by 8:15 and pretty waxed by the time Ivan and Kevin got there. It died for a bit but it came back strong again as Kevin mentioned in his log. We woke up Sunday to John Freed unrolling his sail. There wasn’t as much of a thermal going as a huge thunderstorm had roared through at 6:00. Still, by 10:30 we had some nice wind and it just got wilder through the morning. We marveled at the great scenery to the west. John had to head home after lunch but I was able to continue sailing most of the afternoon on some pretty up and down winds. I ended the day showboating for the Grandkids in some pretty strong winds around 5:00 and then let them all get there pictures standing on the board in the water doing surfing poses. By Monday morning I was still operating on Fridays weather reports so I got out the old weather band radio for the NOAA forecast. I wish I hadn’t done that. According to NOAA, high wind warning, 25-35, trucks blowing over on I-80 by 11:00AM. That got my expectations a little high as Monday ended up being the most marginal wind of the 3 days but still lots of great rides. I spent most of the weekend on the 6.9 and Carve 135L with at least one session each day on the 6.0 and Sonic 85L. Where else but Grantsville can you have a couple of great sessions in the morning and still have a whole afternoon of sailing ahead of you. The scenery was great, it is mostly quiet and serene, and you can walk all the way around the lake again now. However, I think we are going to turn the lake back to the fishermen for the season. The water is being drained fast. The water was through the fence, unacceptable to the fishermen, 30% of the road Friday, and by Monday evening there was just a short stretch left with water to the road. By Monday we had 16’ more beach.

Ken,

Sounds good for a day of learning on Jun 17th... I am debating whether to post the flyer on the website... Always a grab bag of wind... Couple tornadoes here and there, but hell, Kansas is boring!
