I drove by Steamboat Springs today and there is a flat area that I always want to try to kite on. It is not much bigger than Desperation Field and the wind is super gusty. But the snow condition there is always good in the winter, being that it is in such high altitude. I drove by today and saw someone setting up a 10 meter and my curiosity got the best of me.

The guy setting up is a local. But he probably underestimate the turbulence created by the trees and set up the kite in the wrong spot. Once the kite launched, the gusty turbulence created by the trees caused the kite buckle. The lesson: don't setup near any large dense tree area!

I went across the road and set up in a much more open area and had the place to myself for about an hour. The wind quality is terrible due to a lot of turbulence created by the trees. But the snow was good. But I am ready for snow here now!

Let's pray for more snow in Skyline and Strawberry!
