Sulphur 5/26, 5.3, 85L Sonic
The wind at waters edge at 1:00 was 21-25 mph, sustained gusts 35, peak gusts 43, and lulls 16. We knew we were in for a wild time. The little 5.3 was plenty overpowered at times but it was nice to have that little extra in the occasional 16mph lull. Screaming speed reaches were the call for the afternoon as the only way to overcome the peak gusts was to try and outrun them. 6 of us shared the great wind. The water wasn't bad; I have a bad neck seal in my wetsuit and holes in the booties and still never got cold. In fact, I had to keep pushing cool water down the sleeves to preserve the wrists. The wrists finally gave out about 5:00 and I left with wind still coming in at regular intervals. It was a 5-night-wrist-splint afternoon.
