5/5/14 Yuba 5.8M 109/85L Yuba Dabba Do!
Sulfur, Mona, Yuba, Sulfur, Mona, Yuba... Ken and I debated on where to go as the forecasts were all over the place. We decided to stay south of the approaching front, even though my wife needed some cheap wine from WY (she will have to wait until next time...) Ken was ahead of me and reported that Mona was fairly light. So... we ended up at Yuba. Glad we did. We launched from the State Park boat ramp, and the first session was hit and miss. The hits were 30 mph gusts, wild overpowered reaches and the misses were flat out no wind holes. We both rigged 109L/85L-ish boards, and for the first session we tried the smaller boards but the holes were too frequent, and we kept sinking... However the bigger boards carried us through the holes and handled the big gusts fairly well. Ken stayed with his 6.0 the whole day and I hung on to the 5.8, but no question the wind on the water at times was full on 4.7! Finally by the end of the day, we both switched to the smaller boards and blasted from one side of the reservoir to the other. An interesting day. It reminded us as a "Veinto" day, as the wild wind came from all over. Ignoring the fact that we will now need to buy long sleeve shirts in slightly longer sleeve sizes, it was a blast! What a pretty reservoir!
