DC Sunday 5.11

Saw a Saab with a board strapped on top coming up from behind in Parley's and recognized Dimitri as he cruised past carrying heat. Had to put the crop to the 3.3 to get the minivan to give chase and we did but 85mph was barely enough to reel him in and even then not until about Kimball Junction. We tested the Heber vs Midway conundrum and, doggone it, he took the nicer way although I got to DC a hair quicker going by the airport. Once at DC it was clear there are more and more heathens and gentiles out on Sundays anymore but we did successfully round the wagons in Dubock Circle and head out to bounce around the cross chop. My only close call was with, guess what, a PWC piloted by a woman and her daughter. Apparently 150 ft leeway isn't what it used to be.
Overall it was not the same without Jim, still the crew soldiered on: Grant, Dimitri, Duane, Steve, Paul, Angie among others. Dimitri is the man, he brings one board, one sail. It's bold. I sail the same thing over and over but I still cart the rest of it. You never know and I'm not saying I encourage that kind of strategy, still it's commendable. In any case, the water is relatively warm. It's wet suit optional, board short reasonable, I chose the latter. It's also about as high as it can be despite the newspaper indications that this represents only 95% capacity. Another 5% and I'd say Jim will be launching from his front porch. Hope for a bigger push Tuesday.
ps not one beachgoer threw rocks at my board floating in the water, walked off with my board as it was laying on the beach or took my flip-flops from water's edge. this is probably because i didn't leave my board attached to a buoy or unattended and i barefooted it to the launch.
pps Gaastra 10.9, perfect condition, like new. $ 200 obo. I got my new WW quiver. This one is pretty much immaculate. I don't want to hassle shipping it so it hasn't been listed yet. $900+ retail. Photos available. See windsurfing "album".
