My heart was set on Grantsville but I was tied up until 10:00. Thankfully plan B worked out great. Got there at 12:30 to the lake covered with whitecaps and filled in 7.0/115L conditions. The wind just kept building and I was tailwalking on the 6.0/86L combo by 2:00. The Evanston airport was gusting into the 40’s by then. It was 4.7/5.2 conditions by then but an occasional lull kept me on the bigger sail using the peak winds for screaming reaches. And sailing shore to shore, the longest reaches of the summer, had me grinning. One of our favorite kiters Doug had shown up by then and got some good kite rides. Dennis showed up at 3:30 and was still getting some decent rides when I left at 5:00. Great day. If you go to Sulfur watch out for the submerged island. I assumed it was where the 3rd buoy is located but it is further west. I was ripping at full speed toward the fisherman’s shack, thinking I was well clear of the island, when I started seeing muddy water, then some rocks under the water. My heart skipped a few beats but I made it through without a face plant/broken fin.
