I really didn't think the wind was going to be any good but the lakeviewcam helped by confirming that the thundercells going on in the valley and elsewhere were pretty much at arm's length in the distance. None the less I waffled. I didn't leave until 3 and hit the water after 4 but the usual fingery gusts were notably absent and so were most of the motor head crew along with their wakes and fumes. Heck, there were even fishermen out. All together a pleasant surprise. It felt like a gift with the monsoon pattern that we've been suffering.

The wind tailed off around 6 and planing demanded a bit of a pump here and there but once up on top the rides rarely sputtered out. Unfortunately, in the end my Fiberspar wasn't interested in calisthenics and exploded 18" above my boom folding my rig awkwardly in half and into the water. It happened dead upwind from my launch (Jordanelle's onshore flow has real benefits) and the water is warm now so board shorts were more than adequate for a short windswimming session.

In the big picture maybe a couple more ounces of material might be a good tradeoff for durability in the larger rigs. It's hard to believe it would hurt performance. Whatever. BTW, I really love how rock solid my HPL boom is, can't imagine a failure there.

carl- billy and i saw you riding as we got there just a bit too late. i could see the wind dying as we were setting up our kites. we got skunked, but looks like you had a few rides. at least somebody else is enjoying jordanelle as much as we do when the wind is blowing.

Speaking of lake view cam and Carl C., I am currently watching Carl slog around at provo harbor. I notced the wind was up wind so I turned to lake view and was scanning around and saw the ugly mini van. i was sure it was Carl's. Then I saw him rig. Now he's puttering around on his 7m. That bastard. We work together, even had lunch together today. We didn't even discuss wind related sports(as we inevitably debate kiting vs. windsurfing). Maybe we were just preoccupied with the gorgeous ladies we ate with. He didn't even call. Man I wish I was down at Lincoln. Tomorrow looks good. I'll bring the beer. Can't wait to see the crew.

yeah, actually I did get a few rides. it was dying by the time you were launching your kites as you could see, but the interesting thing was that the wind was very consistent that day. it was not the typical j-bay, deer creek kiinda puffy. there were no fingers of wind streaking over the dam or anything and it held up that way for quite a while. kites should have been good for sure. gotta keep on eye on what circumstances lead to such conditions and get there for it again in the future.
