I arrived at Island beach about 3pm to glassy water. I figured that I'd repair a couple of seams in the wetsuit. At about 3:20 I noticed a breeze coming through at the narrow gap. Since Carl hadn't even shown up yet I thought maybe I better head to Sailboat beach, maybe he was getting rides there. Happy to see slight caps and one sail out, found out from his wife it was Eric on a 9 somthing. I watched for a few minutes, and checked with my wind meter a few times and found that it was a very steady 10 and 11, so I thought I better give it a go on the fat gear. It was very pleasant smooth sailing. No Rodeo sailing like UL the day before, I got to relax a whole lot more. Rode for 1.5 hrs and only came off a plane a couple of times. I should have worn my regular wetsuit, I used my drysuit and almost died of heat, I guess that I should have just jumped off and dunked my head a few times. I was glad that I had drinking water with me, to at least cool the insides.

drysuit? that day will come. and better warm than not but i sailed in boardshorts as the water is retaining a lot of thermal energy yet. glad you were brave and had faith enough to show up for glassy water. i should have called and we could have sailed around.
gotta love how pleasant those smooth winds are. the rodeo stuff is fun sometimes too but speed gliding is a real pleasure. it's all about trim, sensitivity and efficiency in those conditions. when you look at the wind speeds it's remarkable. today would have been fun, funner probably, (yes, funner), but puffier too. the smooth stuff is kinda like skiing corduroy, how can you not like it? wish Jim woulda come out. he'll be out today for sure.

But board shorts? I would have been a smurf. Sorry I missed sailing with you. I was glad that Eric was @ SBB sailing. Yes I like the fatty on smooth water....it riminds me of riding in a cadilac! Jim I thought you would be there too.....that you didn't miss any planeable days @ DC.
I'm sure there are more nice days to come!
