First time up to Pow Mow. Wind was just enough today. Great view of the smog soup. Arrived to an empty site and by the time I launched I think there were 8 kites in the air. Enough wind to catch a few airs and figure the place out.

I saw a handful of kites in the air, a couple on the ground, and at least two in the trees! Fun day though...hopefully those kites were rescued without too much damage?

Ya, I also saw some of that. I looked up and there was a kite in the tree seeming to be undamaged. Next, I saw one line power and the kite slam back down onto the dead tree, tearing one of the panels. Sucks to see. Don't know what could have been done at that point.

Yeah, that was me being an idiot :/ Never had a kite in the trees before and wasn't smart enough to do the right thing, which I think was releasing the kite, deflating it, and undoing all the lines. Instead I tried to back it off the trees by pulling in the rear lines. I successfully raised the kite off the trees backwards, but the steering line was caught on a branch and directed the kite back at the tree, shredding it. Oh well, lesson learned! Fun day until then. Also my first day at Powder Mountain.

Kite went into the trees in the first place because I am used to kiting on water. The upwards slope confuses me; makes the kite lower to the ground (and trees) than I think it is unless I am actually looking at it.

are they charging $ to kite PM?

The instructor Andy told me that technically its still closed out there because of the coverage so I haven't thrown down on a pass. I dunno what the deal is for sure but i talked to a patroller yesterday...he didn't say a word about a pass or not kiting out there. Sorry to hear about the kite I've flown mine into trees more than once.

I didn't really know where the zone was and went to ask. They got pretty defensive and told me that I had to pay and told me people need to realize it is for liability. They assumed I wasn't going to pay so it must happen a lot.

The snowkite area is open for snowkiter. The snow coverage same as everywhere else. Hopefully this storm will give us some great snow coverage.

Powder Mt. required us to pay $20 lift ticket. The $20 is to cover the liability insurance and to use the Hidden Lake/t-bar chair lift.
