SNOW KITE demo event! HQ Kites and Cloud 9 kite shop (Utah's only full time kite shop) will host a snow kite demo open to all this Mon, Tues and Wed (Jan 23-25). Conditions are changing rapidly. Original plan was for Skyline Drive, but with 2 feet of fresh snow, more on the way and off the chart avalanche danger, may make it Park City on Monday (across from the National Ability Center). Huge field, wide open, on the South side of the road leading into Park City off HWY 40. We will update this later today with exact spot. Just need your skis or snowboard (bring skis if you do both, much easier your first time). We will have some of the new Cloud 9 Snow Kite Boards and Whitedot Skis for demo as well.

Steve,

I can see moving the event to Park City because it is much closer, but the avy danger on Bosco is low. If you go to Utah Avalanche Center and click on Skyline Dr, it shows that the avy danger for N and East facing slopes to be considerable, but West (Bosco) and South facing slopes are low. Bosco has such a shallow slope that it is not going to slide easily. There is snow in the forecast tomorrow and visibility may be an issue at Skyline, but the wind will probably be better than PC. So, it is a tough call.

My 2 cents to add: First a little background-24 years of ski patrolling at Pow Mow throwing bombs, ski cutting, evaluating stability etc. I really don't think Bosco will slide now-it has been ski cut numerous times and frequently during the storm cycles. I know that isn't a fool-proof indicator but also consider there probably have also been lots of snowmobiles cutting it also. They weigh a shitload more than a skier and are more likely to trigger a slide.

Of course I haven't actually laid eyes on it yet this year either.

MONDAY NEW LOCATION!!! SNOW KITE DEMO EVENT

We moved Monday to Park City... Just made sense with Avi danger off the hook. After 22 years in the back country, just not worth it and PC is close! Forecast is for snow as well, so we all know what that's like at Skyline. BUT Tuesday, we will be at Skyline with all the same gear. Possible for Wed, just have to see.

So details:

updates on Cloud 9 Toys and Utah Snow Kiting groups on Facebook. All Snow kites on sale at Cloud 9. Winter hours from noon-4 Monday through Saturday.

So Monday's event will be from 10:30 till around 4 pm in Park City. We will be across from the Park City Ice Arena (also NAC and US Ski Team) so take I-80 up past park city, then take the HWY 40 exit heading South towards Heber. The second exit is Kerns Blvd, the back way into Park City, head right when exit, then look to your left, that's the spot! Park along the road near the stop light (to turn into ice rink). Kevin from HQ, myself and others will be there to assist and get you kiting. Bring your ski boots, snowboard boots and a kite harness if you have one, we will have some new snow kite boards to demo, Whitedot Skis and plenty of kites and a few harnesses to try out. My cell is 801-910-1109 if any questions. Here's a link to the area, we are just on the South Side of Kerns Blvd.
