Yo what's up!

My husband and I went to Jamiaca in January and took some private windsurfing lessons from some of the natives there. We learned massive amounts of info and faired pretty well...

Truth is we loved it. I myself am a wakeboarder/snowboarder so putting some wind in the sail sounded like fun, thrilling fun. I found turning around a little hard so I tried to sail to Cuba... practice makes perfect!

We want to know more about how to get involved now that were back home and the rain has stopped and the sun is shining.

Looking for info on cost, rentals, lakes, yeah, give me the good stuff.

Look around at all the links on this site and you will have a lot of your questions answered. There is a real good group of people here in the state that will help answer any questions you may have. I know that John Dubock has a rental board and Deer Creek Res. up in Heber is a good place to learn. Just ask for any help from the sailors there and most will be willing to give some pointers. Hope to see you out in the near future.

potential sailing spots.

Getting set up on used equipment for 1 beginner will cost about 6 bills
if you hit a swap meet somewhere (the only UWA swap was 2 weeks ago)
but you'd be amazed at what you can get on-line. You can get a new complete setup for about a grand, but there's no retail place in Utah that
carries retail equipment. See John Dubock about renting his Starboard.
You can PM him here.

You'll want a large (150 ltrs or more) wide (87 cms or better) short board.
Starboard Starts and GOs are the favored boards for learning.
Some boards (called long boards) come with a dagger board (big retractable
center skeg). I personallly find these of dubious value, but a dagger/centerboard
can get a beginner back to shore in light winds very easily. Once you
get even a little more proficient you won't need or want that feature.

A sail in the 5.0-5.5 range will be easiest for an adult to learn with.
When you become proficient, you'll want a lot more sails (and boards
just ask the Gear Queens about that).

A mast for the sail. A boom for the sail. A wetsuit. A harness. Maybe
a PFD while learning.

Let me see, "cost, rentals,lakes" I think that covers it. The good
stuff is only a few more trips to the lake away.
