Why no kiters at Grantsville in the AM?

hey les i went there to check it out. looks like you could launch if someone launched you or a drifter. but if you go down wind it looks scary rocky!!! i winsurfed it, nice water.

Depends on how high the water is. I have kited there a few times and it is pretty gusty, COLD water, and rocky. If the water is low enough you can launch on the rocky shore (like lincoln) but if it is all the way up to the guard rail then it can be a bit tricky. But....when there are no other options...

I have kited Grantsville a number of times. The launch is nasty and rocky, you got to have a kite slave or have your drift launch dialed-in or you are taking your life in your hands. Grantsville also has very spiky, gusty wind. It can be brutal, but is not so bad with a bow or SLE. You also have to be able to stay upwind because the dyke is very rocky, it eats kites and lines.

Several years ago, there was a kiter named Fred that broke his ankle on the dyke. I have not seen him since. Guess Grantsville cured him of his wind addiction.
