First off, thanks everybody for contributing to the maps. They're becoming a great resource. And thanks Rick M. for encouraging everybody to use them.
So, I'm thinking that the three 'detail' maps might not have been the best way to organize things. I'm thinking I should either:
- Condense everything to just one map, or
- Create three maps, one for each of the three 'conditions' (water, snow, land)
What do you all think?

I, too, think the maps are becoming a great resource. I think it would probably be better to go with separate maps. If not, I think the list of site markers on the left is going to get awfully long. I don't think this is possible, but is there a way to make it automatically alphabetize the list? I'm sure most people just start zooming into an area on the map and click on a marker, but it sure would make it easier for a person looking for a site they had heard of, but had no idea where it was.
I heard a lot about a bunch of sites this weekend like Willard Bay, Yuba Res., and Strawberry and we need more info on those and many others. I wish that those people that know about the sites would contribute what they know to the maps. The maps could be AWESOME.

No, you can't sort the markers...but you can do a text search of the page (Ctrl+F, Edit -> Find in Page, etc.).
I'm going to send an email to Google, there are a lot of things I would like to do with the maps that I just don't see a way to do. I'd really like to be able to export the markers so we could save a backup of the maps. Having an open collaboration is nice, but I'm always afraid that somebody is going to delete all of the markers.

Yes, I have had the same concern and, in fact, a couple of times, I had thought it had already happened when the markers didn't load. I had even thought about, at some point, going in and copying the text from each one to a text file. Of course, that would not save their locations within the map; many of which I could find, but some I would not. A way to save backups would be wonderful.

Josh,
I like the idea of dividing it up into water, snow, and land. We may wish to keep Strawberry separate as there are so many good places to launch there on the snow and it would be nice to have a detailed description of each. There are at least double the number of spots at Strawberry than what we currently have listed.

Hey,
Great job, Josh. Finding that secret link on the maps to change the markers to Snow, Water, and Land works great. Now if we could just get people to fill in more information, we'd spread the information and all save a lot of gas. This map is really getting good. Fifty five launch sites, so far.
Thanks,
Rick McClain
