KITE WARNING!!!

Any form of kiting is highly addictive. Do not participate in this sport if you are having difficulties at work, school, with your marriage or family. You will feel the addiction after your first trainer kite session. It will leave you with the need for more. Feeling the power of a big kite and the adrenaline high that comes with the act will deepen the addiction. Once kite riding, you will spend countless hours watching weather reports and fabricating your own weather predictions. You will spend excessive late night hours on kite forums. You will begin spending a large sum of money on kites, boards, and gas. You will alienate yourself from the general population with your constant kite chatter with few people to understand your addiction. Participate in this sport only if you have a strong constitution.

I DO NOT Agree, like all great things it is very simple.

QUIT your job... who needs that BS and headache anyway?

School costs money... spend that on kites, duh. Why pay for education that you will be repaying for the next decade while working off that debt instead of kiting?!?

Get your spouse to join you... or consider a new spouse that shares your passions. If your partner isn't down with your sports, maybe they are not down with who you really are.

I do agree with spending all of your time following your passions, using your soul as a compass to follow your folly... but I believe addictions should be shared with friends, not used to alienate you from the world, but to make you a better person for yourself.

If anything, Kiting is a religious feeling, where else can you walk on water and not be considered blasphemous!

The addiction is unlike any thing I've seen with other sports.

I new something was captivating about this sport when a black dude (color has nothing to do with it except that Sal is the darkest dude I've seen kiteboarding) showed up at my first kiteboarding lesson, never kiteboarded but already owned a sweet board, new kite, and numerous kite videos and mags he let us view in the back of his van. Whats up with this guy. He said, no matter what I know I'm going to learn this sport, so figured he might as well get the gear.

I saw it with you Todd, when you bought my first kite from me. You sounded like me, only a year later. So excited and anticipating moving up the learning curve.

Then Ken and Jason.

After conducting numerous snowkite lessons, you can see the addiction take hold after the first trainer kite lesson.

Ya, it'll consume part of your life.

Each of us decides to trod a different path in life. I think it is very cool that we can get together and enjoy the common passion of kiting (may I also say windsurfing as well since they are our wind loving friends) even though we may not agree on how to live your life, politics, and/or religion.

Billy, I would say to you that less kiting fuels the stoke more than kiting every day. Of course, you have to get out and do it once in a while or it is more of a mental exercise.

I agree with Windzup that there is a religious aspect to it. I don't see it as a substitute to one's personal convictions rather an enhancement. When we commune with nature we appreciate it's majesty. It is tough to commune with nature if you are distracted by a loud motor or a lot of other people. The power of the wind adds to that communion. Wind is free, variable, invisible and incredibly powerful. To harness a portion of the wind is an amazing feeling. Light wind kiting or kiting in a nukefest both offer this feeling. The light wind because you can relax, look around, notice the scenary and living things that surround you. Nuking wind because you can feel the awesome, raw power of nature; Of getting flicked off the water and watching the spray fly off the waves. There is nothing quite like being in the "eye of the storm" it is exhilerating and scary at the same time.

I personally think that kiting is more enjoyable if it is one of the passions of your life, but not the central theme. A full life means following many pursuits and passions with a spirit of curosity, gratitude, and a love for your fellow man.
