When do things normally melt off enough around here /warm up enough to start riding some of the bigger places in the spring? I have a quiver of wetsuits from my dads jet skiing days and my surfing days so that isnt a problem..

Mid to late March usually gets the ice off the valley lakes. Mid April to early May for the Mountain lakes.

Right now, your choices are probably Rush or the Salt ponds, though Grantsville is also a possibility. UL is still
Iced up, though you can see it's breaking up now, It looks like at least another week. Willard looks like UL.
Mona, and Yuba will probably be open by the end of the Month. DC, Jordanelle, Pineview, Sulfur (burrrrrrr)
are still about a month away at least. You can have a look at some of the lakes from the weather page cameras.

Of course if we had a week long record warm spell, everything would change, and I've seen that happen, but
it's not happening this week. I'd stick with the snow for at least one more week.

Warm weather has opened the South end of Jordanelle, also, last years Kite Beach at DC has opened up, problem is, that it's under water. Water is high and no place to launch, too many weeds. Need a scraper or a fire to open up it up for kite lines. DC full, Rush empty, go figure. I reckon the fish in the Provo River are more important the the kiters in Rush.

Thanks guys!

Leo, just looked at the forecast. Looks like mother nature just had another change of heart for when spring will arrive in Utah.. so I think I will wait to break in the water kiting until my trip to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach FL for spring break in 12 days ;)

Erik,

Good call! I am hoping that we have an extended snow season as the water prospects look pretty dismal right now.
