it has been out all summer.

If I remember correctly there was a post about this in the spring. UDOT or whoever owns them decided to pull them for the summer to save on the budget.

Here is part of the post from May 19, 2009:

Thanks for the email regarding the Deer Creek and Sundance wx stations. The Sundance sites is actually owned and operated by the Sundance Ski Area and they are aware of the problem. However, the Deer Creek Dam Chute (DCC) site has been taken down for the summer. Traditionally the sites that are operated and maintained by UDOT's Avalanche Safety program are decommissioned every spring, and redeployed in the fall. There are a multitude of reasons for this, probably the most compelling is that the weather stations are most prone to lightning strikes in the spring and summer months (since they are in elevated areas.) The DCC station will be back up and running next fall when the Avalanche Staff is back in full swing. The SND site should be back on line when Sundance Ski Area has had a chance to trouble shoot and mitigate the problem. If you have any additional questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout or drop me a line.
Thanks,
Ralph

I have not made any contact or called anyone this fall. I don't go to DC much but this was the most info we seemed to find as to who was responsible for which stations.

Wishes do come true! Let's just hope it stays up this time!!

SND readings from 5-6 this evening suggested the possibility of a twilight session at DC:
10 Sep 6:00 pm 72 32 23 SSW 11G18 OK
10 Sep 5:45 pm 72 34 25 SSW 15G24 OK
10 Sep 5:30 pm 73 36 26 SSW 16G23 OK
10 Sep 5:15 pm 74 36 26 SSW 15G22 OK
10 Sep 5:00 pm 74 37 26 SSW 14G21

Unfortunately, it didn't materialize:

Wow. The power of connectedness. Thanks to Josh and Kyrk for helping. And thanks to Ralph P. Did he contact Sundance or was it just coincidence that we are back in business? Whoever was responsible deserves a bit of recognition.

Between the SND site and the Lakeview Cam things have really improved for utah windriders.

we probably should keep track of Ralph for now.

A week later. Sure is nice to have that Sundance site up. It definitely helps to know if there is reasonable potential or if you can go ahead and disassemble the kitchen sink like you were supposed to all summer. Thanks again to those who made it happen.

It would be nice to have a wind reading on the snake creek station. It seems to only have the basics.

Snake Creek wind data probably wouldn't be helpful because the wind at that corner of the Heber Valley bears little relationship to what's happening on DC; it can even be from the opposite direction at times. The Heber airport correlates better with DC, but unfortunately it appears to be down today, and even when it's up, the readings don't get posted frequently or promptly.

Years ago it seems like that sensor did have wind readings, but I remember, as Jim says below that
it wasn't particularly useful. Maybe in conjunction with the Dam, Sundance, and The Heber airport,
you might get more confidence in sailable wind.
