It is a good idea for those who ride alone. You have some accident happen and no one around to know who you are. If you had a certain medical condition that would warrant the thing i could see it. I think it could be some what beneficial. However, I never ride alone! I think it is irresponsible to ride alone if you are going to push the limits(plus no one is there to verify that you have done such an amazing trick). Even on water i will never push the limit if i am the only guy out there. (most of the time i won't even get on the water if no one is there)

Brian you never know, you could get swept away in some rouge wind up on Boscco and we will have a search party out to find you. We would only know that the frozen body out there is you by this identification. (as to separate you from the countless number of lost sled-necks)

But I guess I got a little George Thorougood in me. When I ride alone, I choose to ride by myself.

It is a good idea even if you ride with others for the following reasons:

1. If you have a particular medical condition that is important for first responders to be aware of: diabetes, heart conditions, allergies, etc. Other riders are not necessarily going to be aware of your specific medical issues.
2. It is a good way to notify next of kin. Sure, I like to ride with others, but they don't necessarily know the number for my wife if I am knocked out cold.

I've got a great money saving tip for you all!!! . . . Write down all that personal information on a piece of paper - your name, emergency contacts, medical conditions, etc. Fold it up. Put it in your wallet. Carry your wallet with you in your pocket or camelback. Save $20. The point of the Spot device is your never have to worry about being out there by yourself or rely on chance that someone will find you when you are injured. It will continue to send out a signal if you put in tracking mode. When the people on your email list see that have been in one spot out in the woods or on the water, they can send help. It is a better than saving a few bucks a month.
