Utah Lake Wind Sensor

So, I have been doing some research and it seems that if we hire someone looking for work at Home Depot to sit at the beach with a cell phone giving wind reports it would be cheaper than buying a weather station. Just kidding.

I have put out a few emails and should get some solid numbers back next week about buying a weather station.

What I need is for someone to do some recon work done at Lincoln Beach.

Specifically what needs to be done is find out how owns the land/park. Talk to the person in charge. Find out what kind of permission is needed. See if it is even feasible.
Also find out about phone lines. Where is the closest land line?

The perfect scenario is getting the land owner to pay for the whole thing.
Second best scenario is we pay for the weather station, they maintain the phone line.

If there is no phone line within 1000 feet of the station then the price of the weather station goes up significantly. (less than 300 feet is best)

Anyone willing to step up and take this on?

Josh,
This meter is very close to ULLB.
Maybe, not worth pursuing a sensor right at the beach. IMHO

Gotta say I use the sensor, Marty listed... A lake cam would be sick at ULLB however!

If that one works well then I won't pursue it.

I don't much about video cameras.

It seems to me that the most needed and useful location would be on the west side of Utah Lake; perhaps at Pelican Bay Marina. If not there, then perhaps at the Evanston Yacht Club for sailing at Sulphur Creek Reservoir. Sulphur Creek gets a lot of our sailing time. What sailing sites on the northeast shore of Utah Lake would a realtime weather station benefit most? Are there any that are sailing-friendly enough?

Rick, I think your right. There really isn't a good wind meter on the West side of the lake.

It would be nice to place one right on top of the bathrooms in the marina. Better yet on the jetty it self.

FYI I hope everything is going well with your dad. I figure that is why we didn't see you at the meeting.
