Save ULLB Meeting notes

We had a very good, maybe great meeeting tonight, There was a lot of good conversation, and we for sure developed a repore with the county. As it is currently almost nothing is being changed at ULLB, however there was two request from the county officers.

1. If the Pavillon is rented we must yeild to the people who payed for usage. this mean setting up out of the area, Perhaps up wind of down wind depending on the groups size, launching out of the area, giving plenty of space to the people using the pavillion for the evening , the same goes for camp sites and campers. If it is not rented we are aloud to use it and the grass around it just as before.

2. Jumping the jetty and cruising through the boat harbor is not aloud, we can and will loose access if this behavior continues, as vessels we are not aloud to make a wake in the boat harbor, nor can we jump the jetty, this not only means we are making a wake in the boat harbor, but places the kiter and anyone on the Jetty, IE. fisherman cars etc..in danger. These were the only two point the county officers made about our current behavior that needed to change.

We also need to insure right of way this is so important in the flat water we all know how just one kiter, trying to have fun to close to people fishing from the jetty can ruin the fun for us all, giove the fiserman and your fellow kiters room, if you want to be the bigg air super booster please go down wind. And remember your right of way and kite position.

The county is looking into us recreating there but with no means of limiting access or numbers, there was some questions that showed the countys interest in providing kiters with the safest access possible, and the county officers where pleasent and seemed to welcome us at ULLB. It seemed as though they would invite open discussion with members of the community requarding kiting at ULLB, this was huge!!!

We now need to insure that we continue to mantain the highest level of respect and courtasy while using the park..this means being kind to everyone, including the camp host (He should not create conflict with us anymore), fisherman, ANYONE. It would not be surprising for a county officer to show up and ask questions of any kiter to "inspect" our community. Please Treat anyone that you deal with at the park as family and share the stoke. We invited them to do so.

Let also keep it neat, if there are many kiters out please stack your kites and keep your lines tight and neat. Our foot print is a concern. I told them we could put a 150 kites up in the space, lets prove it by keeping 30 neat and clean.

We also nead to make sure we are keeping the launch safe, this means no self launching in front of the pavillion, Launching with lines between cars or rocks etc.. We need to walk kites out and launch in a safe method this may take a moment longer but is much safer and shows our williness to police ourselves. If you are the last guy out please drift launch.

Others that were at the Meeting please share anything I missed or you would like to offer, It was amazing how well these members of our community represented us. Well done everyone!!!!!

If anyone has questions please see me, or anyone at the meeting on the beach. I am hoping some on from the UWA will open a private forum for us to discuss anyother issues we may have about ULLB as a communiy. Let use that thread to do so.

Great work you guys!! It's amazing how adversity brought us together as a group. How 'bout we take all those letters and cross out Lincoln and write in Richardson Flat and send them in. You guys are on a roll, don't stop now. :))

Good job guys and gal.
Wow Ralph you are always thinking. I would volunteer my time to help get Richardsons back. :))) That is a fantastic idea.
Problem is we have bigger issues there. For one it cannot handle more than 10 riders without have same issues as lincoln. So back to some sort of "guidelines"

A big thanks to all of you for representing our club so well. An extra big thanks to Billy and Chris for spearheading this issue.

Todd,
Richardson Flat has a lot of open space. Are you referring to parking as being the primary issue?

This past year, Richardson Flat did not have a lot of rideable days, but in other years, it was so sweet. I would love to go back. I would pay $$$ for access.

kenny you are right richardson could hold a lot. On a big picture i guess i worry about how visible our sport has become. when you see two kites no problem. I counted 20 kites at DC on sunday. no big problem except you can see the traffic just stop and watch.
With this much visibility dont you think it has risk associated with that, like access problems? just my .02
parking was a issue there, we had several issues with the shuttle driver from what i remember. it also became a place to teach. The owners already posted us out, and as far as I know he is still not happy with the visibility of kiters on his land?
