Where to Ride - Sunday 1/4

Postby Kenny » Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:41 pm

Looks pretty windless just about everywhere for Sunday.

Best bet for light wind riding is Skyline - will probably be sub 10, but you might get lucky. Ikitesurf is showing East winds in the morning, but NOAA is only showing a light N wind. Second best bet is Strawberry on the upper ridge lines.

Monday is looking good at Skyline and possibly Strawberry.

I will check the forecast again tomorrow morning and will update if necessary.

Steep and Cheap offers a funny daily blurb - I thought I might take a crack at sharing one of my experiences:

As I was driving home from Strawberry today, I was flipping through the channels and heard a semi-classic rock hit, "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. It took be back in time to the first time I heard that song. I was a Mormon missionary for 2 years during 1986 - 1988 in Alaska. Listening to rock music as a missionary was strictly verboten, so I was not up on the latest music. One day, our mission president, a kindly older man took 6 or 8 of us to a small diner for lunch. The guy at the counter told us that we could pick a song on the jukebox. One of the missionaries eagarly ran to the jukebox, but my mission president stopped him and said, "No, let me pick the song." As you can imagine, he picked the song that had a religious theme. I remember exchanging sly glances and grins with the other missionaries as we tucked into our hamburgers and rocked out to Bon Jovi.

I am sticking with my forecast.

Monday is looking good in the AM at PM (possible whiteout in the afternoon), Skyline looks good and Strawberry may give up some rides, but looks even more promising on Wednesday on clearing winds.
