Skyline Snowkitemasters Weekend

Postby Marty Lowe » Mon Mar 27, 2006 12:35 pm

Friday; 12M
Fresh powder to start out the weekend.
Lots of kiters from all over the world.
The heard mentality of windriders took over.
most riders were on the face of Bosco hill.
Fun to see the best doing there thing,
but local knowledge of the hill helped me find seclusion,
and freshies (all weekend long)
Small party at Skyline Mountain Resort.
Nice to chat with Rob, (designer of Frenzy kites)
Chasta, Brian, Heather and others.
(Ozone will have the Instinct, a bow style inflateable soon, can't wait)
Thanks to Sal and Mark for letting me sleep on the floor of there motel room.

Saturday; 12M
Big winds in the forecast,
but early on, it was a sucker SE light wind.
Lots of kiters suckered out, and when the wind died,
they were stuck all over the east face, of the west ridge.
The lack of wind for a couple of hours,
made for good socializing, and lunch from Ozone.
The news (5 & 13) were shooting stories also.
The wind slowly started to come from the SW.
First big kites, 20M plus then 16m then everyone hit the hill.
I chose my Turbo 12M, hard to get up the hill,
but great while on top for about an hour.
It was, of course crowded.
I just followed Chasta to some hidden areas, and freshies. (south Bosco hill)
Then the storm wind hit. Yee Haa
--There has been land purchased for a Kiter resort in Fairview.
Accommodations, lessons, store and more, on HWY 31.

Sunday; 9M
Fresh snow, windy and cloudy when I arrived.
Lots of kiters couldn't wait for the clearing skies
and went lower to Electric Lake Area.
That made for Primo conditions on top, when it cleared.
The wind was from a direction, and strong enough
to kite the whole area.
Up Bosco hill, on the flats, down the ravine,
up to the west ridge, anywhere you could find freshies.
I closed out the weekend with a sunset session with Brian,
3 ridges south, on the west ridge.

Watching Chasta, and the other Pros,
was always entertaining,
the hillside is like an open air stage.
Jake, local sponsered by Bestkites, was holding his own.
Big airs, grabs, spins, and anything else you can imagine.
(Jake is now in Norway, competing in the last leg of the European tour.)

Brian and Heather (Ozone), put on an excellent event,
Plan now to attend next years event.

I put a few snapshots in the album...
