UWA Telephone Windtalker Instructions

Dial 1-253-242-2996

You are entering a no skunk zone!

Once you learn the format, it is extremely simple to use... Speak clearly... If you find it having trouble recognizing what you're saying, make sure your speaker phone, background noise, or breathing isn't causing uninterpretable noise.

There are 3 options in the Welcome Voice Menu-

Option 1: Say Windtalker: Gives a list of weather stations that you can say out-loud and it will tell you what the last wind reading and direction was... Might see if we can have it give the last three readings in the future.

Option 2: Say Listen: You can listen to messages left by people who have gone to specific sites to sail or kite.

Option 3: Say Record: You record your name and sailing/kiting site and then give a brief but pertinent report of the weather, other sails/kites, etc. that you see at the site. Please avoid redundancy (echoing other messages). It will be very helpful if you give the TIME of your recording. Recordings are deleted automatically on a daily basis .

The Voice message board could very useful because it is an onsite report. One report can save somebody a lot of trouble. Yes we have a few options now for information on wind, but the more options the better. It helps avoid sailing/kiting alone.

We're well aware that leaving an onsite message might cut into your coolness factor but if people can give a last minute check as to whether somebody is at a sailing/riding site, it can determine whether they get out there or not.
