Utah Lake State Park - 16.5 Contra

Postby crdeputy » Thu Apr 27, 2006 11:09 pm

Today was my first session of the year (been skunked twice at Rush) and first time ever to Utah Lake State Park. It's a great place to ride. Jared and I were the only ones on the water. I was perfectly powered on my 16.5. I would guess that the lulls were around 12mph and the gusts to about 19mph. Jared was on his 11M wishing he had a 14M. We had a good time and rode until almost 8:00 PM.

This is definitely not a spot for beginners. You have to make a number of passes very close to shore before you're a safe distance away. There are also a number of trees, a small building and a dock all just few feet down wind of you. But once you're safely off shore it's incredible. The only other down side is that it doesn't support a lot of kiters. Four kites would be a little crowded and six is probable the max unless people left and went outside of the marina.

I am already dreaming about the next windy day!
