5/25 Mohave 12m & 10m

Postby Jason Klein » Mon May 27, 2013 1:41 pm

Spent the weekend in Las Vegas, and went down to Mohave on Saturday. 6 mile was a complete mob scene. The water is very high, right up to the trees and what open space there's, was covered with cars, tents and trailers. Probably 150-200 people were there. Ended up carrying gear about a half mile south to a small strip of beach just big enough to launch from. Great conditions, once I got on the water. Rode 12m fairly lit for an hour and a half. swung past the crowded beach and the rednecks seemed to enjoy the show. Came in and set up the 10m for Lynn, and she put in her standard 20 minutes. I iinished out with an hour on the 10m. High 90s. Nice to kite in board shorts and a rashie.

There are two main launches, 6 mile cove for a south wind and cabinsite/catherines for a north wind. 6 mile is about an hour and 15 minutes from vegas, catherines is about an hour and 40 minutes. for both, leave LV thru henderson and take 95 south. for 6 mile, make a left in the town of searchlight and that road goes down to the lake. just after the fee booth, make a right on the dirt road and follow signs to 6 mile. For Catherines, stay on 95 for another ~half hour, then left on 163 (follow signs to Laughlin). cross the river and then head north. If you go there, hit me up and I'll show you the launch on google maps.

It will be HOT there in June, plan on 100+ during the day.
