Old Catch22; wind at 13, do I wait until it comes up and miss an hour of sailing or drive an hour hoping it starts blowing. Such nice weather that I really wanted to get out so I went. Surprised by the amount of whitecaps when I got there but there were still holes at 9:00 (the latest wind meter reading was 22g22, not a bad start). Tried floater 135 for 2 round trips and it was too much. The 115L was perfect for 1.5 hours but there were some wind shadows on both sides. Then when I thought it would die about 10:30, the wind seemed to go up a notch, got some major gust lines in the middle, and filled in shore-to-shore; probably just a slight switch in direction. I rigged down to the 86L board and sailed until 12:00, pretty late for this kind of day. Got away with a summer short-sleeve suit with a rash guard on the arms; pretty unusual for late September. Pretty much 20g25 all morning with the 7.0 the perfect call. Sweet sesh. The wind meter shows it going until 1:00 but I was beat after 3 hours of ripping around. A school bus full of kids showed up the last 45 minutes and cheered me on. That was when I finally crashed the only 2 times of the morning and the kids loved that better than my ripping speed runs. Kind of a mirror image of my family.
