7/25, 7/27 J-Bay Ross Creek Thommen 135/42 fin, 7.0-7.5

Double post here. Friday was up and down, but settled out about 3:30 -4:00. I hung on the beach, but J sailed her 7.0 and got some good rides. Small handful of wingers. Empty parking. Beautiful day up there at one of the nicest launches around and great afternoon with the family at the beach!

Sunday was up, down, and sideways. Went out on the GWR 135 and 7.5 about 2:40, and the wind immediately picked up to whitecaps for 30 minutes. Great screaming rides while it lasted. Matthew out on his STBD Go and 8.5 getting rides. That kid just sails and sails and sails. Josh ___? out on a red wing. I'd seen some other big wings (7.5) earlier in the light conditions get some rides while I was rigging, but only 4-5 wings out total, with more watching from the beach. About 3:30 it dropped and got shifty by 4:00. Deer Creek leftovers. Oddly, I've been seeing J-Bay get south wind quite a while before DC, thanks to the PC Sailing windmeter (thanks, team!)

Many more powerboats out than Friday, seemingly all of them doing the water-tank-lots-of-passengers-slow-boat-let's-make-ground-swell wake surfing. (I guess water skiing and trick boarding were so last century, I dunno.) Result was lots of hula for me in the washing machine for a while, but at one point I found myself surfing merrily along on some rogue wave.. Fun for the 75 yards it lasted, but disorienting the rest of the time. Happily, the boats are all going slowly, and turned deliberately away from the big orange sail putting along, which I appreciated. The lower average powerboating speed is safer, I'd say, although it's much busier on the weekend.

Called it about 4:30 or so. The boats mostly all cleared off by then. When I was derigging, it picked up again to planeable for 30+ minutes, but I had to head home. Matthew still out there getting more rides. Impressive!

J-Bay Ross Creek is fun and easy rigging/launching/sailing. Didn't see any birds to speak of...
