What a GREAT ST. PATTY'S DAY treat. Arrived to nice N thermal of 10-15 at 1:30 Put up the 13M Instinct Sport with 146 SS Misfit and cruzed for 2 hours. Not a lot of lift in the kite at those wind speeds but no problems staying up wind and doing small jumps and spins. Wore gloves and booties, just in case. Water is almost as high as last year. No more slurpees for me just MUD PIE from now on. RUSH IS PLUSH as the Kman says. Where was everyone?

How deep is it? Is it windsurfable on a wave board yet?

I knew I should have gone! I kept on looking at the wind sites and one read good and the other way low. I would have been right out had I known for sure. Those skunk drives are getting to expensive at todays gas prices.

RUSH IS PLUSH as the Kman says.

I think that term came from the early windsurfing days at Rush.

Maybe Craig even came up with "Rush is Plush"

Water in middle is maybe 2' deep at the kiting launch.. Getting to the middle may be a bit "grabby" on a fin over 5-7". You could sail it but better be able to sail in circles. It might be a bit deeper more to the North end, near the launch area in the "old windsurf days". Water level is somewhat less than last year at this time.

Kenny you are so right about dirty kites. Oh well, gives us an excuse to head to deeper waters in the GORGE, to clean our kites, when our winds shut down.

Thanks for the update. My log shows all of my days there happened in April.. Let's wait a tad more to see if it fills up some more! Say up to 3 feet

No need for windsurfers to grovel in the mud at Rush; DC is open for business, at least at the Midway (northern) end. The middle of the lake is still ice-covered (probably not for long) but launching at Charleston Bridge is no problem. Today was a bit of a disappointment, but St.Paddy's day provided a couple of hours of excellent big-gear planing conditions. The water level is very high, and the water temp is a comparatively balmy 47 degrees (in the shallows at the launch site).

Come on now. I love Dc but you can't compare it to Rush!!!


If only DC was getting the wind Rush gets, then we'd be golden.
