Is the Dr. recommending some weight loss? I sailed 2 days and I am down 6 lbs. Two very nice Utah Lake days in a row. This is kind of a follow up to Emmauelle’s post. Got there at 1:00 to great white caps and Tom going out on his 5.8. I joined him quickly and was having great rides when it got funky. But as soon as Emmanuel hit the water it came ripping back in and stayed up until 7:00. The little Sonic was cooking. The grandkids showed up to watch me sail just as the wind died back to 7.0 schlogging conditions. What a great afternoon. I feel like I sailed enough miles to have sailed to Hawaii.

Read the rest only if you are not bored with sail shape discussions. With wind readings all afternoon above 20 I would usually be on the 5.3. But I bought a new Northwave that rigs real flat and is supposed to have great range. It looked so ugly when I rigged it that I took it back to the shop and had them rig it. They pointed out that the only way to judge sail shape is to have someone stand on the base and push the tip half way to the floor. Then you see the true on-the-water sail shape. If you need wind to bend the mast to get sail shape then you are out of luck when you need some draft to pull you on a plane in a lull. Frankly, my Northwave 2-cam 5.7 can pull the little Sonic on a plane faster than the new 6.0. But, with the wind ripping +20 all afternoon I have to admit the new shape was very stable and a pleasure to sail in high winds. Part of my trouble is the addiction to the 85L board as everyone else was on +100L boards. That could have been part of the reason for the slow planing.
