I was headed for Mona based on NOAA’s forecast that the front was stalled at point of the mountain and was going to stay there until afternoon. Boy am I glad I changed my mind at Lehi and went down the West side of Utah Lake. Got to Pelican point at 9:00 to gorgeous whitecaps and a steady wind from the north. The first session on the 5.7 was the sweetest as the wind was steadiest and the waves were as big and better organized as any time the rest of the day. This was the time for some speed runs and then a nice wave session. I don’t think of the little Sonic as a wave board because it is, well, flat as a board, with no scoop. But still, it handles waves well. Shame on the board makers for forcing us into flip tips all those years; unnecessary and look at all the sail damage they caused. One unique experience of the day, I had a fish jump out of the water just as I was flying by at full speed. It hit my shin and it hurt so bad I am sure it will form a bruise. The 5.7 lasted 1.5 hours, then on to the gorge gear with the little Hi Tech and the 5.3. That also was a sweet couple of hours. It ended abruptly the second Eric hit the water with a 4.5. But he came back in pumped as he had been dieing to rig his new 3.7. The rest of the afternoon was definitely small-as-you-got with some on 3.2’s. Lots of sailors showed up and everyone got as much wind as they could handle. What a great 2 days for Utah sailors.
