5-18, Sulfur Open, 7.0/115L/135L

Compared to the usual 1st Sulfur trip of the year, there was far less snow along the highway and north of the fish-club shack so I think Sulfur has been sailable for at least a couple of weeks. After so much Grants/UL sailing where I wish it was at least upper 40’s or better yet a 5 as the 1st number of the temperature, it was great to be sailing Sulfur for the 1st time in the mid-60’s. The water was cool but didn’t feel that cold due to the air temperature. The wetsuit was the perfect call. 17-25 when I pulled in and I was so looking forward to a wild sesh on the 86L board. But by the time I rigged the 6.0 it became clear how holey it was. Rigged the 7.0/115L and was getting some great rides but only planning 50%. Switched to the 135L and had a great sesh. Ended with 30 minutes absolutely screaming across the lake on the 115L and headed home smiling. Wind quality was disappointing but had a great time. Especially considering I was coughing and gasping and had a slight fever when I started. I was just determined to make a go of it. A huge flock of Pelicans flew by and that was way cool. 2 other sailors enjoyed the wind.
