Mike, Josh, John and Wayne joined me for a crazy wind morning at Grants. Got there early and I wondered why I left the 8.5 at home. But by 8:30 we started seeing some windlines. Mike was 1st on the water with his 5.7 and caught a plane almost right away. It was kind of a sucker line but we all rigged fast and got on the water. I started off 7.0/135L and moved on to the 115L as it continued to build throughout the morning. By 10:00 I should have been on the 6.0 but there was a die-off both times I went to rig it. By 11:00 it had swung SW and we were all catching wild screaming out-of-control rides on some pretty fluky winds that were easily gusting 4.7. John and I switched to the 86L boards and just kept sailing overpowered. As everyone bagged it I climbed in the van for a nap. Woke up at 1:30 to what looked like perfect 6.0 winds. But ended up being underpowered 30%, perfectly powered 30%, and way overpowered 30%. Oh, and if you noticed that didn’t add up, the other 10% laying in the water wondering what hit me. By 2:30 it was rig down or leave (30g38) and I was too beat to go on. At least by sticking around I was able to talk a kiter out of going out without a wetsuit. I guess in Puerto Rice 73 degrees is perfect no-wetsuit sailing. I had to point out our water is a little cooler than the Caribbean. Heck, John is still in his drysuit. A ton of sailing but hard work. Anything beats last week.
