I got off the east bench late due to construction of a wind board repair rack.
I had scoped the KSL traf cam and Ut Lake View cam, the traffic looked mellow and the wind looked to be on the rise. I left Wasatch @ 4:30 and was @ Pelican by 5:25 looking out @ Mark and Jeff riding fitiful bursts of breeze.
I rigged the 6.4 and was on the water 1/2 hr. later, pinching around the submerged NorWest corner of the breakwater. A couple of hundred yards later the wind and swell angles aligned and I pumped the Velo up on a plane.
It lasted 6 or 8 minutes before I fouled the fin with the first of the weed n'reed problems, I was able to nosedive the 1st batch off. I lost the rig in the second time, not enough to waterstart so it was uphaul time. I headed back ashore in fits and starts with weed n'reed probs that kept me from planing.
I ended up south of the jetty and lost the rig in for a long time, swimsurfing.
The P.W.C. wake didn't help uphauling and trying to water drag my trashed left hip didn't work,( full hip replace 8/2). I got a good tack out and jibed back right into the harbor. Slid the board under the raft after I unclipped the rig and limped it up to the grass, sitting down sure felt great. Carl will that 10m work on my Velo?? Sorry I didn't make it down, way too late a start.
I was curious about what made the breeze work from 7:15 to 10:15 on Thursday and then 4 hours earlier on Friday 3:15 to 6:15. I'm geussing it has to do with late afternoon strong light heating up the east side of the valleys causing the fickle NorEast breeze. Any other ideas??
