Monday night weather report said high over 4 corners would move a little to the east and open the gate for southerly flow through SLC. Since the wind meters in Tooele county stopped recording at 5:15 all I had to go on was the 15mph SLC airport reading. Burmestor was straight west as I drove by and Grantsville city wasn’t blowing at all which made me think the trip was a waste of gas. However, as I rounded the corner to the lake I saw a thousand whitecaps; except they were gulls. Another thousand gulls on shore, all too full of grasshoppers to fly. Lake and shore full of feathers. But the wind was already making a fair amount of waves. I took out the 8.5, got hit by a big gust and rigged the 7.0 and 115L board. Sailed 9:00 to 10:30 one wild screaming reach after another then it died back abruptly and was north 15 minutes later. Could have switched to 86L at 9:30 but about every 10 minutes I would have to schlog ¾ of the way across the lake in very little wind before being hit by another blast. Way more wind than I expected. Could have sworn there was an approaching front. I will have to remember that open gate thing. The high near the 4 Corners does seem to provide most of the summer wind at Grants. June has been a great month. The lake is dropping fast, beach has doubled since 6/18 sesh.
