I spent the first couple of days in SoCal sitting on a windless beach with the family. I had the opportunity to go to Catalina and thought I might be able to catch some wind as well, so I brought one kite and my board. The wind came up out of the west and funneled through the isthmus. I had to launch my large foil from an inflatable dinghy. It took some effort to keep the bridle straight, but I was able to launch and ride fully powered for 2 hours. The scenary was stunning with low-lying clouds over the island. I was able to skim close to both Bird Rock and Ship Rock. All in all, it made for a memorable 4th of July.
