The plan. Head out to open water. Open water reandevous with my freind with a hobbie cat since I cant stay up wind. winds 10-15, mostly 10. plenty of riding, my thighs are sore, but I went so far down wind, I figured my buddy would bail on our plans to pick me up. I rode next to a floating boat and asked for a ride. landed the kite before he had a chance to answer, folded up the lines and kite, and hitched a ride back to sail boat beach. could of used more wind, could of used a bigger kite, but sure did cover some water and sure did feel good.

Were did you launch from?

Had some people at jordanelle tell me they saw you as I was pumping up. I didn't even get a reach in when the wind died...

I launched right there at sail boat beach. There were many sail boats, wave runners, and people on that small rocky beach. Not alot of room with people. I walked up alittle up wind from the beach in the water and had my non kiter buddy and wife help launch. the only thing they really understood was NO! NO! NO! Managed a hot launch in the right direction and all was good. I think the winds are generally good there alot of the time. My buddy says he's never seen a kiter there. It seems like if you new what you were doing you'd be fine there and if you could keep up wind. Plus the dam observation is there to get wind info. I'd definately like to do that again.

Sailboat beach is a tough launch for a kite because it is so gusty. I had a 20M ARX get whipped into a dock a few years ago and I have not been back since. However, I would go there with a bow style kite like a Waroo because they are easy to launch off the water, safe to hot launch due to the extra depower and most importantly they handle gusts well. DC can be notoriously gusty.
