UWA Launch Site Maps

Postby Rick McClain » Wed May 21, 2008 9:52 am

Thanks to Josh Gubler and others, we have what I think is a fantastic resource for all of us right here on our UWA web site. I'm referring to the maps that can be found at the "Local Sites" link at the top of most of our pages, then under Google Maps: UWA PLACES. Josh has created it so that we can all add to and improve on the maps. To do so, you will need to create a free membership to the Google site and sign in, but that's really easy.
I feel that putting a marker in the middle of a lake isn't too helpful to someone that doesn't know the area (and needs the map) so I zoomed in on the map and moved a couple of the markers, like the one at Rush Lake, from the middle of the lake to the area where we typically park and/or launch from. That ought to be more helpful to people new to the area. I, also, added some markers and descriptions for the launch sights on the west side of Utah Lake, again, zooming into the map for precision. A couple of the markers that I put in, Rocky Point and El Nautica, are old and no longer available, but I felt that they would let people know what and where others are talking about; just for clarification. I encourage others to add their knowledge to these maps, making this a really great resource for all sailors and kiters in our area.
Could someone ad the precise locations for Farmington Bay and the launch site at Provo Marina? The Salt Ponds? Willard Bay? Others?
Thanks.

Thank you, Rick!

I put those maps up many months ago and they have remained untouched until now. I had to guess at a lot of the locations and info. Everybody, please help out. I don't know the details of all the sites.

Well, I just discovered them myself. I had gotten to wondering where some of the sites that I hear about are. I guess we all need to explore our own web site a little bit better. I encourage everyone to add to, correct, or make the maps more precise. Show people where to park, if you can. The more site listings and precision, the better. That'll just make it that much easier for us to communicate with others where to have fun. By the way, I like what Josh Shirley has done to the site just in the last few days. He's moved the "Info" links to below the top banner where they are more noticeable, enlarged the font, and how about that scrolling notice about the upcoming Beginner Day.
Thanks to both Josh's. Great job.
