They launched them a couple years back, didn't sell too well as it lacked the standard safety system. I saw them on the goat last year, but heard that Slingy had sold out already so they may be gone. Basically it wasn't that great of a design, they had several warranty issues...and last winter Slingy closed the kites out cheap to get rid of them. Probably not the way to go, but if you do get one, call me, I have low prices on last years Ozone Frenzy bars, and they are a perfect upgrade to the Ranger.
My first experience was with Rangers that Slingy sent to the Snowkite Summit at Skyline last December... within one run the kite blew out all of the rear bridle lines and the kite flailed back to the parking lot... it was odd, a failure not common to foils, especially since rear lines have little tension. SS replaced the kite promptly, but had no excuse why certain Rangers were failing at random like that. I assume the failures led to the discounted 2 year old kites.
Talk to Paul Motz at
http://www.kitesnowboarder.com he sold a few last year... and he can give a fair unbiased comparison to similar products. He will aslo get you a better price than the Goat. Don't float the Goat, its a generic non-kiter run website that is just out to make a buck, not neccessarily providing you with better products or service.
