Cool video Augie, I had not witnessed that type of kayaking before...seems like what a skimboard does for lightwind kiting.

All I can say for myself is that mystery move looks nuts... two thoughts: Rocks and Drowning! Probably the same emotion people have when they see videos of kiters paragliding with kites.. it just looks like a silly dumb thing to do...but thats because I don't like drowning.

Now get me a SCUBA tank and I might try that....of course this is coming from a guy that thinks the Eskimo roll is an Alaskan sandwich. Speaking of Eskimos, do you think that might re-adapt to Squirt boat technology, for underwater seal hunting?

Thanks for posting that Augie.... BTW - How late in the season do you kayak? I've been eyeballing the Huntington canyon rivers around Skyline all summer.

Cool video, best underwater kayak footage I have seen. Squirt boating has been around for a while(at least 25-30 years) and it opened the door to todays playboating. The ability of a low volume boat to "sink" has not only resulted in moves under water but on the surface too. Too bad those glass boats are so uncomfortable. The biggest advancement in playboating lately is the fit of the plastic play boats. you can actually sit in one for hours at a time and feel good.

About paddling the skyline plateau;
There are several rivers draining off the skyline plateau that offer great paddling. Cottonwood creek and North fork Huntington creek are stellar runs but they only flow in the spring after a good snow year. Most of the runs are both Class IV-V in difficulty, not for the beginner. If any yakers want to run Skyline I'd be happy to run shuttle and observe....I'd love to jump in too, but I'm more of a class 1 or 2 kind of guy.

I ran the San Rafael this summer and that was pretty amazing.... ripples not rapids, but fun to be on the river in the backcountry. I could see trading in Utah's summer non-wind days for some kayaking.

Kayaking is over for me for the season. The Colorado is still up but I am too busy to get out.

When ever I do a mystery move I come up laughing and smiling. Sontimes you are just surfing a hole and disappear into the foam pile, resufacing downstream. If I am surfing a big wave it is common for me to exit right through the back of it when the bow dives. The boats are custom built for inseam, shoe size, and weight and aren't too uncomfortable but it sure feels good to get out and stretch. They are also made out of Kevlar/Polyester layups -6 kevlar,5 polyester and are surprisingly tough. But you can feel the boat compressing around your legs when you go down.
