Annual Utah Snowkite Party

Postby windzup » Thu Feb 12, 2009 10:16 am

Also known as a Freeride Rally, and more predominantly called the Snowkite Masters... and as of the last couple years its evolved into the US Open Nationals for Kiter -Cross.

Thats right, the biggest party of the year (meaning lots of like minded friends gathered together to celebrate a common cause)... will go down at Skyline February 27-March 1st. Thats the last Friday of this month!

One can find the basic details here.... http://www.SnowkiteMasters.com But for the real deal, you'll have to ask a snowkiter that has experienced an SKM and shared in the positive vibe that grows from these core industry events.

In general, its a Freeride and every one is invited to participate in any way they choose.... at no cost. Ride with some of the countries (and worlds) leading kiters, watch from the side lines, or just join in the revelry and debauchery that can often erupt when kiters converge. Invite your friends to attend the intro to kiting clinics, while you get involved in some of the more advanced topics that will be covered. Or just come to party at the 'smoke-free' Triangle Lounge with special guest DJ Ollie G, as he kicks out some of the hottest wind inspired sounds.

For those seeking fame and fortune... then entering the Kiter Cross races is your way. The first 40 Registrants will receive a Heli Pro pack from Dakine along with an SKM Hoody (a $100 value). Simply fill out the registration form online and submit your $50 entry fee and you will be eligible to race Friday & Saturday. The money goes into a cash purse for the race winners...along with other fabulous prizes. :-P

This year the Skyline Snowkite Masters has grown in many ways, and we are happy to announce that many more supporting brands will be on hand to share their stoke for Snowkiting. In addition to the love we have felt from Dakine, Pistil, Ozone, Ska & Zeal Optics, we will have even more energy from Rossignol, Mystic, Flysurfer, HQ, Best and Rhodes Rolls (hot n fresh cinnamon rolls before the races, yeah!)

For the photographers out there, get involved and be a part of the action. Saturday we'll present a prize for the best photo from the weekend. Kiters are encouraged to team up with the lens and bust-o-move.

So, stop listening to CNN and the Wall Street report... and get out and support a local Snowkiter.... wether you are cheering on a friend or racing yourself... Snowkiting cannot help your 401K, but it will help you forget about it!

Why do I have a feeling that Sal's girlfriend is going to show up in a bikini and end up posing on the hoods of some of the higher end vehicles there?

Word just in that we will have some highly skilled foreign friends to kite with this weekend. Tom Bordaue, Ettienne Lhote, Jerome Jousserand all from France, Martin and Otte from Germany, and Mad Murphy from Czech. I probably hacked the spelling of their names, but I'm stoked to share our local spots with new faces that will surely help us all step up our own level of riding.

More to follow. Fresh snow, with decent wind forecast.... no wammies.

Mark Johnson post an review of the first two days with photos:

This has to be the best sport event I ever attended. It is like a guy who play pickup games with friends in local parks gets to play with NBA players and hangout and party with them. 8) The party Saturday night was great.

Thanks to Heather and Brian, as well as many other organizers, for all their hard work. I am beyond stoked about snowkiting because of this event.

When's the next one?

[Edit] My report from the first day. (I mistakenly said it was in Strawbs. Sorry.)
