Mojave this weekend

Postby Jon Manwaring » Sat Apr 11, 2009 7:19 pm

Jeff and I may hit Mojave next week starting Wed-Sun. Forecast looks like N for the latter part of the week. I've kited at Katherine's and launched form Cabin Site. A little rocky but OK. If possible, I would like to camp and launch farther to the North and hopefully find a more sandy, little cove to launch from. Have 4 wheel drive so dirt roads are not a problem. Either the NEV (W) or AZ (E) sides are OK, any suggestions? I have a boat and can take it and launch at Katherine's and boat up to a non road accessible cove if one exists. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and join us if possible. Winds are forecast to be in the high teens and temps, a little cool in the mid 60's

Hey Jon,

I have WS Sand Hollow on a north and it was excelent! A perfect 5.0 day and 95ltr board, and no one else on the water. I think the north wind there is the cleanest direction. So good luck.

Also about Mojave camping. On the Arizona side, quite a ways north of Kathrines, right across from 6Mile, there is a primative area, that Dimitri always sets up camp, and seems to love. I remember sailing over to that side, many years back, but as I remember it had some sandy beach areas. 6Miles is nice too, that's where all the Cali kiters used to come to, but I haven't been there for a few years, so I'm not sure now. But I know you would like it, if you want to stay Nevada side. At least they have beach bathrooms there. Have lot's of fun....I wish I could go. Sarah

We'll call you to see where you end up Jon. We were planning on Mojave, but with the north wind we may hit Mead instead. BOB WAYNE is playing the Dive Bar Friday night in Vegas and we will be there for that primarilly, then chasing wind after ward.

Not the warm south wind I hope for when in Vegas...but still wind. See you down there.

Thanks to all for the info on Mojave. Ended up at Sand Hollow. As Marty posted, very nice and WINDY. Seemed gusty but could have just been the way the wind was that day. Rode everything 8M,9M,11M 13M and Mountain Bike.
