A Bit OT: Mountainboarding Movie Premier

Postby btjsfca » Tue May 26, 2009 11:53 am

Since the wind at Burm has been pretty pitiful this season (although it looks like it was ridable yesterday), I've been speding a good amount of time mountainboarding with the Salty Peaks crew, the Dirtstar Army. These guys are riding at a pro level, and it's something to see. 10 foot drops with a few rotations, backflips off dirt jumps, single track riding down the bobsled run, skate parks, rails, street, you name it.

They're putting out a movie this year, and the premier is coming up. If anyone's interested, here's the info:

Saturday, June 6th
Downtown Library
Main Auditorium
Doors @ 2:30, Film @ 3:30

You can find the trailer at http://www.dirtstararmy.com.

I've seen a cut of the movie, and it's good. Totally worth seeing once. More than once if you're into mountainboarding. I know it's not wind-related, but in case the wind is dead that day, it's something to do.

The day for this event is coming, and I just want to let everyone know that there's a 21+ premier going on at Piper Down that same night. Doors at 9:00. So, the complete details:

Piper Down
1492 S State St
Doors 9 pm
First band 9:30

So, two chances to catch the show. Maybe I'll see you there.

So how was the show? The Piper down is a fun bar/venue.... wish I was there.

Dirt start army is a solid group of riders and friends, guess I'll have to get the DVD.

Anybody getting in some KGB (KiteGroundBoarding) lately.

The afternoon show went well. Turnout was about 95 heads. Mostly friends and such, but some new faces. Don't know that the stoke was as high as I would have liked, or that the team was after, but it's a tough thing premiering at a public library. Some of the cool factor gets sucked away for sure. But massive props to Van and Sammy (the better half) for all the work that they did. It's a lot of effort sharing your passion.

The Piper Down show was great. Again, big props to Halston for setting that up. Fun band and a good DJ. Lots of energy and good friends. The video played on continuous loop during the night, and I felt inspired the whole night, seeing what that crew can do. No matter which sport, a good bunch of talented riders will get your juices going and push you to new levels. Every time I ride with these guys, I get better, go bigger, and have more fun.

The DVD should be on sale soon. I know Van's just putting on the finishing touches. I'll post a reply when it's up.

As for the kiting, the winds have been erratic, and often come with rain. For KGB, that spells mud. And there is mud that I picked up at Burm that has fused with my board. Palin says: "thanks, but no thanks". Doesn't help that access now seems to be an issue. On the first good day that I get the chance, I'll go see about the alternate entrance. It's very probably inferior to the Burmester station park-n-ride, but who knows? Could be magical. For now, gravity still works.
