Ok he's not a kiter yet, but I had a long conversation with him down at the OR show and he said he's ready to come to the Darkside once and for all. However, he did say he's unwilling to step foot in Utah Lake? Nice photo with longboard legend Mickey Munoz! Thanks for the new issue of Standup Journal John. Excellent photos.

Jason, are you sure he is ready to turn to the dark side? John, make sure you sell me your old gears when you do.

Its is true, I'm so leaning toward the Dark Cookie side. Jason is such a cool dude, he's the Cookie Monster. I hear they have all the fun, adventure, stoke and I need to help the economy like I did buying 21 sails, 10 masts, 5 boards, 9 wetsuits, all for a few hours pre thunderstorm at DC.

I'm messed up, Corpus/Bird Island in May for a week of 11hrs a day of a weeks worth of wind threw me into a quandry, Sir Willy Sturgis sails EVERY day down there, we camp for free, and they throw new Starboard Kore boards at you all day long. Every sailor here told me for ten years "once you ride a small board, you're done". Well picture me on a Kore 86L with 4.2 sail in 39 knots making every jibe.

99 ski days as a Snowbird Host this winter, and riding mtn bikes once a month from November till April in St. George got me in great shape. Then StandUp Paddling happened, two June trips to Ventura/Santa Barbara, DOMINATED my home break of Pitas Point with 4hr sessions, endless waves, evolution of the surf species since I learned to surf in 1964. Trevor is jackhammering pools 14hrs a day this summer, dreaming of Mt. Superior and the Homicide Chute, he and Troy got 125 ski days, only 5 riding the Wire, the rest in the backcountry. Fisherman's lines are safer with the twins NOT sailing, I'm sure the fish catch count is way up at DC, Sulphure and G Ville.

So while Mr. Morton did make a strong case for kiting, I want to "kite surf with a six foot strapped board on a mysto reef". No flat water, no jumps. One sail, one backpack. Travel. Blue water. Strong beer, loose women, sailboats on the horizon.

I have engaged the counseling services of a wise man, James Southwick to 'ease' my concerns that I might be someday be wearing my shorts outside my wetsuit, grow a beard, suddenly hang with skaters and snowboarders, get a pirate tattoo. Then again Carl C has a soccer van these days, so go figure.

As to my gear, you can bury me with my 4 new Ezzys and the Formula 155, the rest is gathering dust in The Vault. I do miss 13 of 14 weekends in a row at Yuba, and 22 Utah Turkey week sailors at Katherines Landing and Brett Linde losing sails in the streets of Sugarhouse, Dave O dragging boards, sails behind his trailer for hours, then selling me the same damaged goods. Stay tuned for the Estate Sale...
