Lost gear. Who do you call?

Postby Emmanuel Pons » Thu May 06, 2010 3:24 pm

Hi there,

I was wondering about finding gear left in the water at Utah Lake. Apparently some people got lucky.
Did you leave a paper on a message board at the marina or something?
If someone was to find gear. Who would they call you think?

I heard about your rig Manny, that sucks... I'm assuming that you're asking for that reason...

I know that when Yuba drained I found 2 rigs burried under the mud as we walked out into the flats. The rigs were in bad shape of course and who knows how many years old?! I took it apart and actually used the mast and boom for a landsail rig. When you put your ear up to the boom you'd not hear the ocean but echoes of fluorescence and 80's music!

I'm not sure if the newer rigs sink as easily as the older rigs, but if it did sink, it's probably sitting on the bottom right around that general area down wind from where you broke down. You might want to call Ty Hunter. He is the Parks Manager... I'll bet that he'd have some information for you as far as lost and found goes. I met a guy in Maui who told me a story of how he lost his mostly carbon rig in 35 feet of water, it sunk, he scuba dove where he lost it and got it. The rangers have bottom scanners that are pretty amazing, might be worth a try if it was a nice enough rig! ;)) His number is 801-375-0731 Good Luck.
