Trouble at Pow Mow

Postby Augie » Wed Feb 01, 2012 10:36 pm

I was up kiting today and stopped to talk to some of my ski patrol buddies. They were asking if I heard about the kite that blew onto the run and tangled up several skiers in the lines. Anyone know who this was or how it happened? There is no reason for this to happen and it is things like this that give us a bad name. People will remember this longer than they will remember watching the pretty kites fly.

I posted in the wind log about this. I wasn't out kiting, I made it up to Hidden Lake later in the day and stopped in at the patrol shack and they filled me in. A guy put his kite down and went to lunch as the wind was peaking mid to high twenties. Lines still hooked up, skis resting on the LE next to the parking lot just upwind of a busy cat track. The kite blew away and tangled on some bamboo, then a bunch of skiers skied right into it. Thank God no one was injured. I talked with the guy, he felt like the total kook and was apologizing up and down. This can't happen again.

Also, we need to make sure to be packed up and back to the parking lot by the time ski patrol is doing the final sweep at 4 pm. Thanks.
