Boom height and harness lines on big sails?

Postby Emmanuel Pons » Sat May 07, 2005 9:19 pm

Just wondering, how high do you guys run your boom and what lenght harness lines to go with for the big gear?

It seems it would be nice to run it fairly high (forehead high?) with longer lines than for smaller gear. Any imput?

On another note, with the choppy water I slammed my boom into my lips while jibing today! I think I had never done that before :)

From what I have read, and experimented with, I have found that for the larger size sails the boom at about chin to nose height seems to work pretty good. Last year I went to the Sailworks Quik Tune adjustable harness lines. You can adjust them on the fly and they work great lengthed out for sub planning and you can hook in and then adjust them shorter after you settle into the straps.
