It's been a while but I wanted to check in first to say thanks for the UTWA award! Pete thanks form putting that together and for sending it to me! It's on my desk right next to my college diploma. Mamma would be so proud!
I want everyone to know that I'm representing the UTWA out here. Everyone wants to know about kiting in Utah and they are all curious about snow. You should all know that they all know about Skyline and Strawbs and have seen video. They are all in awe of you guys. So be proud that you guys kill it out there and are definately pioneering the sport!
Also I wanted to let you guys all know that I'm picking up info all the time about the kiting scene down here in southern California. Most weekend I'm driving up to Long Beach where there is better wind and some great spots. If anyone is ever down here let me know and I'll meet up.
More importantly I've discovered that Baja California is the promised land (no offense to brother Brigham). Spring and summer its a 4 hour drive south of the border to San Quintin. There is a bay for flat water with old half sunken boats to jump over, hotels with peirs and balconies where guests watch the kiters. There is an ocean spot with medium sized waves to play in too. Well the whole beach is completely in play actually. Miles and miles of sand. The accomodations are nice with a bed, restaurant, bar and shower in your room all for $40 a night. We spent memorial day weekend down there and it blew 30mph the first day, 25-30 the next and then high teens/low twenties the next. It was great and cheap!
During the fall and winter everyone heads to the sea of cortez side to San Felipe where it blows just as much but the water is protected and glassy. So when skyline isn't quite ready and Utah Lake has gotten too cold let's all head down there for killer water conditions!
Above are some pics from the trip this weekend.
