I-80 Eastbound--??? about locations@cheyenne

Postby witt » Wed May 29, 2013 11:18 am

I'm taking a bucketlist trip East and looking for good locals enroute. Obviously Sulfur's on the way and I've sailed on lake McConaughy Neb. I know it's windy around Cheyenne Wyo. but I don't know about any lakes in that area.I could end up on I-70 as well.So if anyone has any good tips on sailing sights on those routes, let me know. I,d like to get some more time on the water before we get to Avon N.C. I know where I'm sailing on the east coast, but looking for places between here and there. If you have any thoughts or ideas,I'd love to hear them.Post here or call me at 801-891-2008- Thanx Tom W(Witt)

Hi Tom...Buffalo Bill reservoir in Cody Wyoming rips!! Grant Jr. and I sailed it after we windsurfed Yellowstone lake years ago. Windsurf Mag did a nice review on Cody although it`s about a 2 hour detour east from I 80. Your probably going out I 70 if your heading for the Outer Banks so put Cody on your Buck list for your next trip. I Just got back from the OBX and had a great time! Enjoy...Wish I was going again!!! :)))

I haven't been there, but I hear that Denver people kite & windsurf at Lake McConnaughy, NE. Looks like it is 5-10 miles off of I-80.

One guy tells you about a lake you previously mentioned, the other tells you to take a 4.5 hour detour towards Canada!! What kind of advice is that? Next will be someone telling you to rig your 3.2 anywhere in Oklahoma.

Okay Witt, here is one to try that is not far off of I-80. I have kited Saylorville Lake near Des Moines several times. The winds there are all frontal generated, so wind depends on the day you are going through. However, it is a nice place to sail. You can sail about any direction by going to different campspots around the lake. There is a windsurf beach as well.

Have fun!
